Today was a very, very hot day. I got up at 7am to go running and it was already 80 degrees so I knew what was coming! This time I didn’t get lost on my run! There were heaps of people out cycling, I reckon most of them were a cycling team or something. There were many out running also, although I expected to see more since it seems like the path by the river would be a very popular trail. Anyway so at breakfast a few girls and guys on my hall brought up going to the pool for the afternoon so that’s just what we did. When we left to go to the pool at about 12:45 it was 92 degrees in my room, and about 96 outside! The pool was nice and less crowded than I thought it would be. I swam some laps but mostly just relaxed in the water and laid out a bit. I slathered on SPF 30 but I still got color today. The sun is just too strong here! We got back around 4 and I did some research on surf lessons and on the other trips I want to do. I’m hoping to go on spring break (maybe to Fiji?) with some of my friends from the New Zealand trip but we’ll see. That would have to be organized soon though—only 4 weeks of class then it’s spring break! Hopefully I will get some info on what they are doing sometime this week. I found a surf school that seems perfect because you can get 4 separate lessons and just use them whenever you want. It also doesn’t hurt that the price is pretty reasonable—especially for that flexibility, and flexibility is exactly what I need! It’s a school just north of surfer’s paradise on Main Beach. It’s just over an hour drive there. I figure I could do them separately or 2 lessons over 2 weekends. Then I’d have to get one night at a motel or hostel which should be easy in that area. But obviously before I book this stuff I want to talk to all of the international students in Union to see who wants to do this with me. I recall that a few girls I’ve talked to want to surf so hopefully they’ll want to go to this surf school as well. I think we could get a Uni group discount that way too. The only thing left to figure out would be how to best travel there. I’m not really sure about buses and trains that run that way. But it’s a very popular beach so I’m sure there’s a way, especially because the school advertises on their website that it is the perfect place to go from Brisbane. As you can probably tell, I did a lot of researching on all of the surf schools on the Gold Coast as well as on the islands and I’ve been quite excited since I’ve found this one. Anyway I also want to go on weekend trips to Moreton Island and Fraser Island. UQ does weekend camping trips there, both 3 day and 2 day. They are both beautiful and seem to make perfect weekend trips. I’ll be going to Byron Bay for the weekend when my parents come so at least that’s one weekend that I actually know what I’m doing! But back to the more near future, I’m definitely excited about classes starting even though I’m having a great time just organizing, planning, and socializing. It seems like so long that I’ve studied for anything, mostly because it has been! I found today on UQ’s website that they post the final exams from past years for some classes, so I already saw what my finals will be like—I know, I’m getting a little ahead of myself here. Oh and tomorrow all of the 2nd and 3rd-years move in—very happy about that—some more people not 2 or 3 years younger than me! Anyway, I wiped out from all of the sun today but I need to go get ready for tonight’s festivities…I’m not sure where we’re going but we’re going OUT. Haha that’s all I know but I’m sure we’ll end up finding the party soon enough. I'll post again tomorrow!
